NOBI HOUSE
Date: Winter Quarter 2020 (January-March)
"The Japanese architectural movement known as Metabolism focuses on the idea of structure and organic biological growth. My project initially began with the idea of smaller boxes and spheres physically growing out of a large central box‒each of these existing as separate habitable units, similar to the Nakagin Capsule Tower. However, to further emphasize the idea of biological growth, I decided to program and alter the structure to be a home for an extended family; one gene pool literally growing within a home. All of the individual box “units” were then altered to be interconnected, and the spheres turned into Haus Rucker Co. inspired inflatables that still remain connected to the home. Haus Rucker Co. emphasized that architecture must go beyond buildings, and through continued revision of this project, I came to view my structure as a representation of absurdity and nonsense, testing the idea of architectural reality. In the end, my render, a supposedly “real” representation of my building, shows the extended family home as a sliced up cake in a sweet candy universe."
